Cartier
Diabolo 1420
The Cartier Diabolo is one of the Maison’s most quietly compelling designs. Its name comes from a children’s toy popular in the 18th and 19th centuries: a double-coned spool spun and tossed on a string between two sticks, whose distinctive hourglass silhouette is directly echoed in the watch’s oversized, conically shaped crown.
For this watch Cartier found its inspiration in something playful, and built around it a watch that feels entirely its own: a round case with long, stylized officer’s lugs that give it a refined but distinctive flair, sitting somewhere between a dress watch and a jewellery piece.
This reference 1420-0 is presented entirely in 18k yellow gold, with a white dial carrying black Roman numeral hour markers, an outer chemin de fer minute track, and blued Breguet hands, all the classic Cartier signatures, rendered here in the warmth of full yellow gold.
It is accompanied by its original 18k yellow gold deployant clasp and a Cartier strap sized for a lady’s wrist.
