Cartier
Tank Basculante 2405
Originally introduced in the early 1930s, the Cartier Tank Basculante was Cartier’s refined answer to the idea of a reversible case. Its Art Deco-inspired case is built around a clever flipping mechanism, allowing the watch head to rotate within its frame. Originally conceived to protect the crystal, the design has since become one of the maison’s most distinctive and collectible creations, appreciated for its combination of utility, proportion, and pure Cartier elegance.
This example, reference 2405, dates back to the 2000s and features a white dial that has developed a beautiful creamy patina over time, giving the watch a warmer and more vintage character. The Roman numerals, chemin de fer minute track and blued hands remain classic Cartier signatures, perfectly balanced within the rectangular case.
The watch is currently fitted with a generic leather strap and generic buckle, but it is accompanied by its original Cartier deployant clasp, an important and desirable detail that completes the overall set-up.
